Deity's Favor (Ex)

Drudarch was born in 1346 in a sea elven hamlet north of the Velen Peninsula, halfway between the Amnite city of Athkatla and the Nelanther Island, from the union of a sea elf sorceress and an unknown human father. In 1366, as Drudarch enters puberty – much sooner than other sea elves – he starts to show odd draconic traits. The very same year, his village gets decimated by a band of sahuagins presumably encouraged by the then-unknown Iakhovas, killing most of the hamlet's able warriors, including Drudarch's mother. The fifty or so survivors joined the remainders of another sea elf colony and those of a merfolk village who also sudffered the sahuagin raiders' attacks. The new-formed group fled to the North as swiftly as possible for more than a month, until they reached the protection of Waterdeep's harbour. Without any parent to back him up, Drudarch had already begun to lose the sympathy of the others he was travelling with. Only half the swimer a normal sea elf was, and even slower compared to a merfolf, he'd been slowing the group's escape from the start. The young girls he'd grown up with and whom he was starting to look at with adult eyes were still but elven children, leading their parents to stop Drucarch from even talking to his former friends. To make matter worse, the draconic traits were becoming stronger, and to merfolk bards with knowledge of these things, they plainly indicated a blue dragon in Drudarch's ancertry, a creature as cruel and territorial as the sahuagins they'd fled. Once certain they were safe from danger, everyone made him understand that if he really were an adult, he'd have to start taking care of himself and stop relying on the rest of his clan to feed and clothe him. Unwilling to be treated as a pariah, Drudarch took upun himself to explore the city above and see if people of his father's race wouldn't be more welcoming. After a whole day spend in the maze of Waterdeep's streets, however, he'd become sorely disappointed by his first encounters with humans. Exhausted, dehydrated, and unable to find his way back to the harbour, he was assaulted by thugs who stole his money and left him unconscious in an alley. He was found by a group of monks of Ilmater, who'd let him rest in in their monastery as long as necessary for him to heal properly, and then led him back to the sea. After a few days of reflexion, he gathered all his possessions and went back to the monastery to ask to be taken in as one of the master monk's apprentices. As the first non-human monk, he at first kept feeling like at outcast, but after two years of intense training, Drudarch had become mor ephysically fit than he'd ever been, had finally gained confidence in his skills, and was an match for the best students he'd trained with, even though he still had trouble understanding the wisdom of past masters that was taught to all apprentices. When Iakhovas' forces attacked the city of Waterdeep in 1369, all the followers of Ilmater rushed to help the people get to safety, heal the wounded, or join the city's defenses against the invadors. A better fighter than most under the water, Drudarch dove to fight the sahuagins on the frontlines along with the sea elves and merfolk still living in the harbour. No more considered like a dead weight, he was invited to come back live with the rest of his clan, but Drudarch couldn't shake the feeling that he had a dept to repay to the church of Ilmater, and that something greater was calling for him from above the waves. Drudarch thus went back to the monastery to continue his training, helping out at a new orphanage funded by the churches of Selûne and Ilmater between training sessions, always ready to help those in need like the monks had done for him a few years before.
